Remembering an old friend.Rest In Peace, - Darwyn Grant Cooke,You are missed every single day.
Darwyn had become a very familiar face and grin at the Orlando MegaCon over the last 4 years I was able to attend. He was gracious to this fan from the first time I introduced myself as I asked if he would sketch a Green Arrow for me. This was my first Con and at 65 did know what to expect, Darwyn was my favorite artist. His art was so much fun and I was buying what I could find. Then the Parker books,oh my, they are just great, even bought the Champaign edition. Darwyn was gracious each year to sign and sketch into each one. The last I was able to attend (I always found his booth first)he signed a Blackhawk figurine box and sketch'd Blackhawk in my sketch pad. I only knew him through those short minutes but I looked forward to seeing him each year. When I read he had past away I was shocked and saddened, I will miss meeting him each year, talking and enjoying his funneiness and sly grin, but most of I will miss his story telling and artwork. Will there be any "last project" published? I don't seem to find any answers on the "web". I thanked him the last time I saw him, I got the grin and a handshake.
Just wanted to drop a line to say that I think of Darwyn often.I had the pure pleasure of working with him in Toronto in the mid-90's, and he was truly a gifted and unforgettable individual. A man of great intellect, humanity, and principle.
